Help on Windows

v0.10.7

Troubleshooting

  • wsl --install says virtualization is off: turn it on in the PC's BIOS settings.
  • claude: command not found: run echo 'export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"' >> ~/.bashrc and reopen Ubuntu.
  • The installer prints that the screens can't run, then ./install.sh --preset starter and a ./install.sh --parts line: type ./install.sh --preset starter, which is the setup for "I'm new to the terminal". Nothing was installed yet. If the message mentions the GitHub login, run gh auth status, log in again with the command from step 5, and rerun ./install.sh.
  • The GitHub login hangs after you approve it: Ubuntu is waiting at "Press Enter to open github.com". Press Enter, or run the login again and press Enter when asked.
  • The login says unknown flag: --git-protocol: this Ubuntu's gh is too old. Install a current one from install_linux.md and run the login again.
  • The clone says release not found or Could not resolve to a Repository: accept the invitation first, then check you logged in as the account that was invited (gh auth status).
  • The clone says Bad credentials or To get started with GitHub CLI, please run: your GitHub login is missing or expired. Run the login from step 5 again, then the clone line.
  • The clone says fatal: destination path ... already exists and is not an empty directory: the pack is already downloaded and nothing was harmed. Carry on from cd ~/leaven.
  • Plugins didn't install: run ./install.sh again. The checklist opens with your choices ticked, so press Enter through each screen.
  • The installer says sudo did not accept your password or new packages need your password, then the terminal parts did not finish: run ./install.sh yourself, not through Claude, and type your Ubuntu password when it asks. The checklist opens with your choices ticked, so press Enter through each screen.
  • The installer ends with Still to do: under the job-search lines: it could not install Node or poppler itself. Do what each line says; for a missing Node or poppler that is a command, for example sudo apt install -y nodejs poppler-utils, then cd ~/job-search && ./tracker.sh.
  • The installer says ~/memory is already there and is not a memory vault: move that folder aside (mv ~/memory ~/memory-old) and rerun.
  • You pressed Q on a screen and it says Cancelled. Nothing was installed.: run ./install.sh again when you are ready.
  • The installer says a repository named memory or job-search already exists on your GitHub account: rename or delete that repository, then rerun.
  • Anything else: ask Claude, or send a screenshot of the window to whoever invited you.

Commands worth knowing

  • /clear: start a fresh conversation in the same folder.
  • /resume: pick up an earlier conversation.
  • /compact: summarise the conversation so far to free up room, keeping the gist.
  • /context: what is filling the context window.
  • /model: switch models; the smaller ones are faster and use less of your plan.
  • /help: everything else.
  • Esc stops Claude mid-answer; pressing it twice lets you go back to an earlier message.
  • Shift+Tab switches modes. Plan mode makes Claude lay out what it would do and wait for your yes before touching anything.
  • @ followed by a file name attaches that file to your message.
  • ! at the start of a message runs it as a command in your terminal and shows Claude the output.

The best way to learn more is to ask Claude about itself while it works: "why did you do that?", "which file told you to?", "what would happen if I changed it?".
